Juan Antonio Cano Baro Announced as New Chief Executive Officer of Prunus Nuts

10 May 2024

Cibus Capital LLP (‘Cibus’), the specialist investment advisory firm focused on sustainable food and agriculture, is pleased to announce the appointment of Juan Antonio Cano Baro as the new Chief Executive Officer of Prunus Nuts (‘Prunus’), the Iberian almond producer.

Mr Cano brings twenty-five years of agriculture and food company experience to Prunus. His track record of driving growth and expansion in the region will support Prunus’ ambition to be a leading almond producer and processor in Spain.

Mr Cano joins Prunus from J. García Carríon, the wine producer, where he was Commercial Finance and Purchasing Director and served on the company’s Board of Directors. Prior to that, Mr Cano was Finance Director at Acesur, Kellogg’s and Schweppes Suntory in Spain. Mr Cano has a P.D.D. from IESE Business School and a degree in Business and Management Administration from Complutense University in Madrid.

Mr Cano replaces Jorge Pena, who has played a pivotal role forming Prunus’ foundations. The company extends its sincere gratitude for his substantial contributions.

Mr Cano said: “I am honoured to join Prunus at this exciting time in the company’s development. Mr Pena’s work so far has given Prunus a platform that will allow the company to produce the highest quality of almonds with the lowest cost of production, utilising technology and sustainable practices. I look forward to continuing this trajectory for the business and am enthusiastic about Prunus’ future.”

Mr Pena said: “I have great confidence in handing over Prunus to Juan Antonio, whom I have known for many years.  I have very much enjoyed developing Prunus to this point but now feel that the time is right for me to focus 100% on my other professional activities.”
