Cibus Capital launches Cibus Carbon, a new fund specialising in Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs)

25 September 2025

LONDON, UK – Cibus Capital LLP (“Cibus Capital”), the specialist investment advisory firm focused on sustainable food and agriculture, today announces the launch of Cibus Carbon, a new vehicle investing in Australian planted carbon projects within the natural capital sector.

The fund is targeting delivery of c.11.25m high-quality, cost-effective ACCUs over a 30-year period, assuming an AUD 300m fundraise. Cibus Capital anticipates that the Australian carbon credit market will become the world’s largest by the end of the decade, driven by strong compliance demand and a growing number of voluntary buyers. Cibus Carbon’s ACCUs will deliver both environmental and community benefits in line with UN Sustainability Development goals. The market for these ACCUs is expected to grow significantly, with net buying demand expected to reach 44 million in 2030 (from 15 million in 2025) as baselines decline and regulatory requirements intensify.

Cibus Carbon will be managed by a dedicated Australian manager, Cibus Carbon Investments Pty Ltd led by Damon Petrie and Jeremy Alun-Jones, and the related-party asset manager, led by Simon Campbell (Consultant CEO) and Grant Tranter (Consultant Chief Scientist). The fund will plant a mix of tree species on carefully chosen sites. These sites are selected using a proprietary system that finds land where the cost of purchase is low compared to the potential carbon credits it can generate, creating an attractive investment opportunity in a market that is difficult for new entrants to access.

“Cibus Carbon shows that protecting ecosystems and creating value can go hand in hand”, Rob Appleby, Founder and CIO of Cibus Capital said, “Our strategy helps companies reach Net Zero while generating wider benefits for communities and investors alike”.

Damon Petrie, Consultant Director, Cibus said: “Nature-based mitigation will play a major role in the pathway to addressing climate change. The Australian Carbon Credit market, at the pace of growth and maturity, presents a prime opportunity to invest in institutional-grade nature-based solutions which we anticipate will deliver robust returns.”

Cibus brings deep experience in sustainable land and nursery management, large scale tree planting and real asset operations through its current portfolio, including Withcott Seedlings, one of Australia’s largest native tree seedling producers; a Cibus Fund II portfolio company. This experience gives Cibus a unique understanding of seed sourcing, quality and performance, positioning it strongly in the growing ACCU market. By combining proven operational expertise with innovative technologies, Cibus Carbon aims to set a new standard for high-quality ACCU generation.
